In the Dark Ages, Clan Cappadocian was one of the leading clans of vampiric society. Clan members were dedicated to the study of death itself, being necromancers of immense power. It was founded by the mysterious Cappadocius, who at one point purged his own clan in an event called The Feast of Folly. This purge of the unworthy kept Clan Cappadocian on the path of knowledge, and it appeared that the clan would be able to continue on their studies unhindered.

This ended in 1444. Augustus Giovanni, mortal aid to Cappadocius, was embraced by Cappadocius and promptly diablerized his own sire. Using his newfound power, he created his own Clan from his family members. The Giovanni declared war on the Cappadocians, and they were hunted into oblivion. Not a soul survived.

…Well.

Cappadocians do exist in these modern nights. The scions of the survivors, these Cappadocians continue their studies in hiding. They live under the constant fear of their exposure to the Giovanni, who are well aware that some escaped their wrath. These Cappadocians live under a metaphorical Sword of Damocles every evening, always waiting for the sword to drop and their existence to be revealed. The modern Cappadocian is a creature biding their time, waiting for the proper moment to make any move, both for themselves…and for revenge.

Sect

Cappadocians are by nature Independents. Getting too close to either sect risks the attention of the Giovanni.

Appearance

The curse of the Cappadocian means that Cappadocians grow steadily more and more pale and corpse-like as they age. Serious faced, solemn, and quite pale are all excellent ways to describe the average Cappadocian. The vast majority of Cappadocians, however, are scholarly types or those fascinated by death. In the end, almost all members seek answers to the great question, whether through assisting other Cappadocians or through making advances of their own.

Haven

Cappadocians favor solitude when selecting locations for their havens. Their work and its subjects tend to disturb mortals and squeamish Cainites, so they remove themselves from society as much as possible. Favorite locales include crypts and mausoleums, both of which provide endless supplies of materials for study and experimentation. Some members favor sites of knowledge and repositories of lore, such as disused libraries, forgotten rooms in schools and monasteries, or wings of castles provided by a lord or prince.

Background

New members are selected according to utility. Cappadocians do not Embrace with caprice or whim. Sometimes a strong right arm is needed; at other times, mortals with riches or other assets are chosen. The vast majority of Cappadocians, however, are scholarly types or those fascinated by death. In the end, almost all members seek answers to the great question, whether through assisting other Cappadocians or through making advances of their own.

Character Creation

Cappadocians have a well-earned reputation as a thinking clan. The members of this clan will focus on Mental abilities, with perhaps physical to get out of a jam (although you could easily argue that about social as well). Backgrounds might focus on an Alternative Identity to hide from the Giovanni, or perhaps in Domain for a safe spot they can go to. But remember, the successful Cappadocian is a safe Cappadocian. For good reason they are loath to take anything that draws attention to themselves.

Organization

Cappadocians are aware of one another, but the scattered and defeated nature of the clan means that they rarely encounter one another. When they do, there is an exchange of knowledge between fellow scholars.
